LWB’s 2014 Teacher Training has officially kicked off! We’re happy to report that the teacher training team and teachers and staff have all arrived safely in Shaoguan.
They spent much of Tuesday traveling to Shaoguan, Guangdong province, the location of one of our Believe in Me schools. When they arrived in the afternoon, Helen, Education manager for Shaoguan and Yvonne, Education Director in China, greeted the team and took them shopping for some workshop supplies.
The training team and teachers and staff enjoyed a delicious meal together as introductions were made.
Then, the training team met to put final touches on their workshop plans for the first day of training to start Wednesday morning.
We love how the team of teachers from the Believe In Me school in Shaoguan dressed as a team!
The teachers, managers, and teacher training team all met for the first day of training on Wednesday. After a fun balloon popping icebreaker that had everyone laughing, teachers attended morning workshops about how to use social stories to help children learn about school behavior and prepare for future events like field trips and hospital visits so they know what to expect and can be successful during these experiences. They practiced methods for teaching children about math and reading concepts such as patterns and sorting. Ways to improve fine motor skills and to help students with their sensory needs were addressed in the workshops, and so was nutrition.
After a tasty lunch at the school, the teachers, managers, and training team spent time with the Shaoguan Believe in Me students doing the activities that the teachers had been learning about in the morning. As these pictures show, there were many smiles all around as everyone got to know each other and learn new things. The teachers learned about reading social stories.
The Shaoguan students were so proud of their drawings on their social story booklets!
To strengthen hands and fine motor skills, teachers “fed” the tennis ball man.
Everyone is looking forward to working together this week and learning from each other. We hope wonderful and exciting things will come out of the training sessions!
