Nate’s Mischievous Side

Nate is a happy little boy from Shunde in Guangdong Province. Often described as curious and helpful, Nate’s nannies have revealed that there is a playful side to this well-mannered child. He and a friend recently devised a sneaky plot to get into a high cabinet containing snacks. Together the two children cooperated to get into the cabinet, which included Nate climbing onto the other boy’s back to make him tall enough to reach into the cabinet and get the snacks out! We know Nate is good at sharing; so we can imagine the two shared their pinched treats. Nate’s ability to get along well with other children is apparent, and he certainly seems to understand the concept of teamwork!

Kimi: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Meet Kimi, our tiny bird! In this photo she is wearing a heavy padded coat for warmth. If you took it off, you would see that she is much too thin for her age. Last month LWB’s Nutrition and Orphanage Assistance Program Director received a phone call from an adoptive parent who had recently adopted a child whom LWB had helped. While in China for their adoption, the mom visited the orphanage and noticed a tiny baby. She learned that this little girl had a cleft palate and had a difficult time feeding and gaining weight. The mom was very concerned as this little one looked more like a four-month-old than an almost one-year-old.

A Memo from Zane

MEMORANDUM
April 29, 2011
To: Families Seeking a Clever, Happy, Loving Son
From: Ten-year-old Zane from Zhejiang

Please be informed that I am still waiting on word that my family has found my file and sent in their paperwork to bring me home. It’s pretty hard for me to understand what is taking so long as I have been ready to meet them now for such a long time! While I wait, I have been trying to stay busy.   Besides my schoolwork, I have been very busy rehearsing for the upcoming Children’s Day performance. Because I have a reputation for having great rhythm, I have learned many dances that I would be pleased to show anyone who is interested.

Focus on Formula Update

2011 has been a very eventful year already for Suzanne Damstedt, an LWB volunteer who directs LWB’s Orphanage Assistance and Nutrition programs! Many LWB supporters will remember that Suzanne entered a contest sponsored by Ford Focus to win $10,000 for infant formula (“Focus on Formula in 2011″). With your support and votes, Love Without Boundaries was one of the lucky winners!! On top of that initial $10,000, Suzanne then was given the opportunity to drive a brand new Ford Focus 10,000 more miles around the United States for the opportunity to raise even more money for the babies in our nutrition programs.

Pamela and Rochelle: Friends Forever!

It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like, “What about lunch?” – Winnie the Pooh

Rochelle and Pamela recently hung out together at the hospital where they were having their exams done. Neither girl can walk, and both use a wheelchair or walker to get around. Pamela (wearing the yellow jacket) has a bone disease called osteogenesis imperfecta and is said to be a very smart little girl.  Rochelle’s diagnosis is not as clear, but she is not able to walk independently as her legs are not strong enough.  Rochelle is a creative little girl with artistic talent many of us wish we had.

Bryson’s Debut

Handsome Bryson is making his debut on LWB Community today! When he was nearly two and a half, this dapper boy came to live in the Foshan Shunde orphanage in Guangdong where LWB has participated in Orphanage Assistance projects. Bryson came to our attention when he appeared on the shared list, and his orphanage has asked us to help get the word out that he is waiting for his family.

Nate’s Wait

Last fall we blogged on three irresistible boys from Foshun Shunde orphanage in Guangdong: Perry, Jared and Nate: Boys Will Be Boys! We’re pleased to report that Perry was recently chosen by a family, which just warms our hearts. The very cool Jared was featured in our blog just last week. We didn’t want Nate to feel left out, so we thought we’d share some new photos of him that we just received since he’s still waiting on the shared list. Is he not adorable?

“Annabelle” Lee

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of “Annabelle” Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

We have taken a few liberties with this section of Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee,” but it resonated with us as we watched a new video of Annabelle from our education program in Wuchuan, Guangdong province. Nine-year-old Annabelle is much loved by all of us, and we hope for her to experience the love of a family soon too!

Jared: Peace Out!

Jared is one cool dude!  In every photo we see of him, he confidently gives us the “peace” sign.  In the last blog we ran on him, we reported that Jared might be the next Justin Bieber…with his upbeat, polite attitude and his love for singing and performing, not to mention his obvious sense of self-assurance.  Jared is quite friendly to everyone in his orphanage in Shunde.

Little Leo, All Bundled Up

The Year of the Rabbit celebration came and went a few weeks ago, and our little Leo turned a year older…now he’s three! “Snuggly Leo” was featured on the LWB blog last fall and has not yet found his own family to snuggle with. It’s hard to imagine who could resist his innocent little face, especially when it’s framed by a puppy-ears hood!
