Lenore Jean: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Lenore Jean is a precious six-month-old baby in one of our newer foster care programs in Guizhou. Looking at her chubby cheeks and sweet smile, one would never know that she has a serious heart defect. Originally the diagnosis was VSD, which is a relatively simple surgery as far as heart defects go. But upon further examination and testing, the results showed something much more serious, and doctors believe the sooner she can have the surgery the better the outcome will be.

Our Virtual Volunteer Team

I get a lot of letters from people thanking me personally for the work LWB does, and they always make me uncomfortable. The reality is that LWB is a worldwide team of volunteers, and they are the ones who truly deserve the thanks. We couldn’t be the personal foundation we are without the over 175 dedicated people who follow the kids so closely.

It has been suggested that LWB would be an interesting business model to study since our individual programs are run entirely by volunteers, many of whom put in up to 40 hour weeks to make sure the children we help receive medical care, or specialized formula, or a chance at an education.

Lovely Lucy: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Lucy lives with her foster parents and older foster sister, Beth, in Fuyang, Anhui Province. She has been with her foster family for four years and has received surgery to repair a heart defect. Recently, when asked to describe Lucy’s personality, our China program manager described her as simply “lovely.” She says that whenever she visits, Lucy runs to greet her and will lean up against her and ask if she has brought any treats. She also loves to pose for photos.

Grants…Grants…Grants!

Love Without Boundaries has been fortunate to be able to offer grants to a number of children who are in need of a little extra help in being chosen by a family. Each adoption grant is attached to a specific child and not to a particular agency or specific parents. Generally, once the adoptive family receives travel approval, the grant money is paid directly to the adoption agency to assist with the adoption expenses. We are very excited to announce that this month has brought us two new $2,000 grant recipients: Rocky and David!

Rocky

Rocky earned his nickname by being shy and pretending he was asleep when volunteers visited the Believe in Me Changde School in Hunan he was attending. When he thought no one was looking, Rocky would open his eyes and take a peek at the visitors, and he eventually overcame his fear. His bravery earned the respect of the LWB volunteers, who gave him the nickname “Rocky.” Nine-year-old Rocky was also a grant recipient in 2008; however, a family never was matched with him, and eventually the grant funds went to help bring another child home.

Where There’s a “Will,” There’s a Way

This handsome young man is Will, formerly a resident of LWB’s Anhui Cleft Healing Home (ACHH) where his precious life was saved! After recovering enough to be discharged from ACHH, Will now lives in the area of Anhui that we’ve named “Zhang Village.”   Zhang Village is a tightly-knit community of foster families who take wonderful care of children who need a bit of extra tender love and care. Currently we are waiting on news that Will’s file has shown up on the shared list. We feel that this will happen very soon and hope a loving family will come forward for him. In the meantime, we need to help Will’s foster family pay for him to attend kindergarten so he can continue to grow and develop as he prepares for life with his forever family.

David’s Summer

Remember when we were waiting for David to show us his smile? We can tell the summer agrees with him as he is grinning from ear to ear in his recent photos! Since David is still waiting to be matched with an adoptive family, we felt it was time for an update on what he’s been up to these last few months. (If you’d like to see more adorable photos of this boy coming out of his shell, please read his other blogs, “David’s Smile is Shining Through,” and “David’s Sweet Tooth…and Sweet Heart!”)

Hoping for A Family for Julian

Julian knows joy. He loves his ball. He delights in playing with other children. He enthusiastically embraces a good picture book. He relishes a good meal. He thrills at being helpful. He overflows with happiness when praised for a job well done. Yes, Julian knows joy. But he doesn’t know the deep love of a permanent, adoptive family.

Julian, now four years old, has been on the shared list for a long time. You’ve met him on this blog several times (“Julian’s Joy,” “Julian’s High Jinks,” and “Julian: Almost Four.”) At the time his file was submitted, he didn’t even walk yet! Now he runs. When the file was prepared, he didn’t speak at all. He’s still a man of few words, but he does call those in his foster family by name.
