Brandon’s Wait

Patience may be a virtue…but it’s just so difficult to wait!  For almost a year now, Brandon has been waiting for his forever family while living with his foster care family in our Shantou foster care program in Guangdong Province.   According to his foster care reports, this sweet and lively boy enjoys a good game of hide-and-seek with his little friends and staying close beside his foster mom (seen below) as she goes about the day’s housework.  Like many three-year-olds, he loves to “help” with the daily chores and is said to be extremely observant.

Sweet Prince Brenden

Brenden has the personality of a prince. In choosing his English name, our nutrition and orphanage assistance program director was right on with the name Brenden, which means “prince.” A prince can be defined as an “outstanding man,” and we know that Brenden certainly is outstanding!

Perry, Jared, and Nate: Boys Will Be Boys!

In an orphanage in Foshan Shunde, Guangdong ,where LWB has an Orphanage Assistance program, live some great little boys whom we would love to see “being boys” in their own families!  Active.  Happy.  Mild. Mischievous. Smart.  Smiley. Sweet. Tough.   We’d like to introduce you to three wonderful boys!

Penny’s Cookie

Little Penny is waiting so patiently.  At two years old, she’s not too talkative yet, is a little bit afraid of strangers and doesn’t talk much when someone she doesn’t know if around.  However, she will let you know what she wants with her eyes!  If someone in the room has snacks, she does not ask but stares at the food non-stop until she gets her share. We love the story that these three photos of Penny tell!

Peng’s Chance

Sometimes there are babies in our work who have very complex medical conditions – and sometimes those babies are the ones who are absolutely the most full of LIFE. Little Peng from Guangdong is one such baby. In every photo we have of him, he has this enormous smile on his face. His nannies have told us what a sweet little boy he is, and how he laughs and smiles and just seems to enjoy every moment of his day. When I met him in June, I was quickly taken with the twinkle in his eye and how outgoing he was.

Rusty’s Smile — Worth a Thousand Words!

When I read the LWB foster care reports each month, it always bring me such joy when I see a photo of a child with a big, spontaneous smile.  In every report we have received about two-year-old Rusty and his personality, abilities and needs, there is one thing that never changes:  HE IS ALWAYS SMILING!

A Day In the Life of Two Medical Volunteers

In the last installment of our series, “A Day in the Life”, we’re turning the spotlight onto two incredible volunteers in LWB’s Medical Program. LWB had its beginnings in healing children with medical issues and is now proud to have 31 volunteers dedicated to its Medical Program alone! Cathy Langguth is a fairly new volunteer who has just begun working with LWB in the Heart Surgery Fund, while Nancy Delpha, LWB’s Associate Medical Director, has been with LWB since its inception. Their heartfelt motivations for why they volunteer for LWB are echoed by many of the other LWB volunteers who could not be profiled here individually.

Nancy Delpha: In August 2003 I was privileged to travel to China with Amy Eldridge on a visit to Guangdong province where we visited two orphanages and were able to assess the needs of some of the children living there. Amy founded LWB after we returned from that trip, and I have been involved as a volunteer with LWB ever since in at least a small role including administrative work, foster care, and medical where I now devote my time.

Sarah: Once Shy, Now Sunny. Still Waiting…

When Sara first became a student at our Shantou Believe in Me School in 2007, the teachers described her as shy and quiet. She never smiled for pictures, and the teachers were very excited when they finally “caught” her participating in dance class. A few months later she smiled for a photograph displaying her artwork.

Shanna in Search of A Family

I first saw this adorable face in November of 2007 when I visited the Believe In Me school in Shantou. I had walked into a room full of preschool age children who were sitting in little chairs up against the wall awaiting my arrival.

After a few minutes, the children began to sing and dance to a song about cats. They were each wearing a kitty cat “hat.” It was such fun! I could not have stopped smiling even if I had tried.

All in the Family

The Wall Street Journal recently featured a beautiful story about a very special friend of LWB, Mui Koh, and her daughter Portia. Mui teaches English in Guangdong and has donated items for our Born in My Heart Art Auction in past years.
