A Closer Look at our Top Ten Photos of 2009…Number Three

Don’t you love this photo of Jacob taking his first steps at our Heartbridge Pediatric Healing Unit? Look at the joy and excitement on that face! Jacob was born with an abdominal issue requiring immediate emergency surgery, which LWB provided. Following his operation, he was moved to our Heartbridge Unit outside of Beijing to recover, and all of the nannies quickly fell in love with his sunny personality. He has now been discharged into our foster care program, and we are hopeful that this year will find him with a permanent family of his own!

Effervescent Emma

Emma is a constant delight. Her bubbly personality shone through from her first days at our Henan Cleft Healing Home (HCHH) and has become stronger with each passing day. Needless to say, she gets a lot of attention from the nannies and is the life of the party at HCHH!

We love getting updates on Erin, a sunny little girl who came to Heartbridge in March following surgery for a serious abdominal obstruction and infection. Her gorgeous smile lights up her whole face! She also has “scare hair”….will it ever lie down?

Meet Melanie

Meet Melanie, one of our “auction babies” who had surgery for a serious heart defect in June. Currently 18 months old, she keeps life interesting for the other residents at Heartbridge while she recovers and gets stronger. Melanie is a bit of a drama queen and likes to keep everyone on their toes wondering what expression she is going to pull out of her hat next. Perhaps she is a great actress in the making!

Floor Time!

At first glance, these photos of Jacob and Levi enjoying “floor time” don’t seem to be that unusual. Don’t all babies love floor time? However, floor time is not always practical or safe in an orphanage environment, so it is a complete joy to see these boys and others from Heartbridge scooting around the floor amidst a jumble of toys.
