Cheryl: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Cheryl at Huainan

Three-year old Cheryl participates in several of our programs. Through our Huainan nutrition program, she received quality infant formula to support proper growth and development. She has moved on to the toddler formula that provides nutrients, such as iron and calcium, necessary for continued development of the brain and bones. Cheryl just began attending LWB’s Believe in Me Huainan School. Although shy and a little timid, Cheryl enjoys going to school with her friends.

Cassie’s Transformation

Cassie is a beautiful five and a half-year-old girl from Huainan who is receiving treatment for club feet. Usually gentle, serial casting using the Ponseti method takes about twelve months, but Cassie is a special case because she also has Larson’s Syndrome, which affects her knees as well. Cassie couldn’t bear any weight on her legs prior to a knee surgery and her casting, so she spent her days lying in her crib. She has been at the casting facility for two years following surgery on her knees and is doing very well. Because of Cassie’s extended stay, she is on our website for sponsorship to cover her additional expenses. She is doing so well that we do not want to send her back to her orphanage until we are sure her feet will not regress.

Jacob: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Five year old Jacob is such a special boy in our Huainan Believe in Me School. Although he has a hip joint deformity, he absolutely loves to run and can run very fast, which gives him much confidence.

Jacob loves to assist his teachers by helping to set up the schoolwork for his classmates, and he always offers to stay after class to help his teachers. He gets along well with his classmates and is a very good leader and team player. In fact, he recently participated in a walking race where the teachers say that he “united his teammates, because he knows that this is the key to success.” What a bright little boy!

Counting Our Blessings on the Twelve Days of Christmas: Older Kids

On the third day of Christmas, we are remembering all of the older orphaned children who either never had the chance at adoption or who aged out of the system before being chosen. China’s entire culture centers around the family unit, and for children who grow up without ever becoming part of one, their futures are very difficult. Much more needs to be done with vocational training and teaching these wonderful kids how to make it on their own. We loved this photo of beautiful Rebecca, who turned sixteen this year, playing Santa at our holiday party in Huainan. Rebecca is part of our education program, and she loves reading and writing. Everyone who meets her comments on what a kind and lovely young lady she is. Thank you to everyone who helps support the children who will never be adopted. It means so much to them to know there are people who care.

Ruby: A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Who doesn’t love a good fairytale?   Of course, the best fairytales have happy endings. When I heard Ruby’s story and saw her photos, she reminded me of a princess from a fairytale awaiting her Prince Charming. Let me tell you a story about Ruby and the “Prince Charming”  of her dreams.

Once upon a time lived a radiant girl with a heart of gold – Ruby. She was beloved by her teachers, friends and nannies…but still, something was missing in her life:  her “Prince Charming.”

Julia’s Difficult Journey

From the very first day of her life, Julia began what was to be a very difficult journey. Due to congenital imperfections of her heart, this winsome six-year old has been on a long road ever since. Even the common cold seemed severe in her little body. In 2006, Love Without Boundaries was able to provide Julia with surgery to help her heart function better. Following this surgery, her caretakers felt she really began to make progress and gain much needed strength. She was a little fighter and surprised everyone as she quickly learned to walk on her own, talked more and more, and became more plump and healthy.
