A Child’s View of Adoption

In 2013, LWB invited Fang Lee (from the documentary Somewhere Between) to visit several orphanages in China to see what the children there knew about international adoption. We then created a video that summarizes some of their answers.

In honor of National Adoption Month, we are sharing this video again. We hope you will take the time to watch it and realize that most children growing up in orphanage care, even those who are older, know very little about what the word “adoption” even means.

Adults who have chosen to adopt go through months or even years of preparation before they meet their new child, while of course most orphaned children have no way to fully grasp what international adoption really entails. We hope this video can be an educational tool to help adults better realize that compassion, understanding, and true patience are essential when meeting their new child.

We are also happy to report that almost all of the children featured in the video have since been adopted!

Love Without Boundaries proudly advocates for adoption but is not an adoption agency. We invite you to contact [email protected] with questions about a child we have featured and encourage you to contact your adoption agency for more information about China’s Waiting Child Program.
