A Day In the Life at Believe In Me — Jingzhou

The Believe In Me School in Jingzhou, Hubei Province is a tiny and mighty program for students. Each day is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The mornings begin with exercises right after breakfast. Students wake up their bodies and then assemble for their morning meeting where they greet one and other and talk about what will be learned in school that day. For older students, mathematics and Chinese lessons are tackled first when they are fresh and ready for new ideas. Younger students enjoy playing with educational board books and developmentally appropriate toys while their older classmates work.

In the afternoon, all children participate in art and music. Younger children clap out the rhythm of nursery rhymes and songs as the older kids memorize the words. Students also take time to draw and work with markers, crayons and pastels. Each month, students of all ages participate in a performance demonstrating mastery of what they have learned to their classmates. Some of our best photos of BIM — Jingzhou are of boys and girls proudly showing off new skills and knowledge.

Carly, the smiling girl in the above photo, is one of the newest students at BIM — Jingzhou. When she first started attending school she was too shy to interact with the other children. She would not talk to her teacher. After several weeks of developmental play and opportunities to learn songs and nursery rhymes with her classmates, Carly is now showing a whole new side of herself that loves learning. She has memorized some nursery rhymes and is showing an interest in learning more Chinese. We hope that her time at BIM — Jingzhou will help Carly be all that she can be in the next phase of her life. We are certainly enjoying her cuteness and desire to learn while she is with us.
