A Final Surgery for Harley and James

In early 2016, we learned about twin boys who were born conjoined at their pelvis area.  Harley and James shared one liver but had two bladders and four kidneys. They lived with their 20-year-old parents in a small village in rural Guizhou.

The operation to separate them was expected to be extremely complex and costly — completely out of reach for this impoverished family to borrow or pay.

We offered to help raise funds for the twins’ separation surgery through our Unity Initiative. Your kindness and generosity were amazing to see, as all the needed funds for their first operation were raised. The twins underwent successful separation surgery at Fudan University Hospital in Shanghai, and everyone was thrilled and greatly relieved!

When Harley and James were discharged, we knew that they would face a final surgery to complete their needed procedures to live a healthy life. Doctors feel that the time has come for them to have the operation, and so once again we are asking our community to help these twin boys who have become so dear to all of us.

What an incredible journey Harley, James, and their parents have been on! It has been such a privilege to play a role in their healing, and LWB and the boys’ family are so grateful to the many, many supporters who have helped them make this journey.

Each boy’s final surgery is estimated to cost $6,500, and we are hoping they can go to the hospital in early December. Your donation in any amount will help with this final surgery and set this family firmly onto the path of a healthier, happier life together.

Thank you again for your incredible compassion for this family and their beautiful twin boys.
