Anny and David: A Mother’s Plea
Many years ago, LWB launched our Unity Initiative, a life-changing program to help desperate families who are unable to provide their children with the medical care they need. Since the beginning, our hearts have been with orphaned children, but we also realized that preventing a child from losing his or her parents is just as essential. We have been so incredibly grateful to our supporters for partnering with us to keep families united.
Recently, many people in the adoption community have learned about the plight of two beautiful children in southern China: Anny and David. These siblings were both born with a very rare condition called Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome. There is a lot that goes into this condition, but to keep it in simplest terms, the children’s ribcages have not grown since birth, which means their heart and lungs are unable to grow as well. Without surgical intervention, both children will eventually be unable to get the oxygen they need to survive.
Their mom has had to watch them both struggle to breathe, while trying everything in her power to find a hospital in her home country to help them. Unfortunately, there are only a few hospitals in the world able to perform the surgery the kids need, and none are located in China.
Over the last few months, we have watched as their devoted mom has become more and more filled with despair, knowing that her children will pass away without surgical intervention. She loves her children so much that she even reached out to several adoption agencies, saying she would make the heart-wrenching sacrifice to let them be adopted overseas if it would mean they would finally have a chance at life.
No mom should ever have to make that decision.
Our founder, Amy Eldridge, has just returned from Los Angeles to see how LWB could help. We are so happy to let you know that in partnership with the Kim Clement Center, both Anny and David will soon be seen by one of the top surgeons in the world for this condition: Dr. Skaggs at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. We are beyond grateful that everything has now come together to help this beautiful family have hope for their children’s futures.
This is of course a very special case for our Unity Initiative. The costs will be much higher than the surgeries we help arrange in China. But we have seen again and again that when people come together to help the kids who need us most…absolute miracles happen.
We all have the ability to give Anny and David the gift of life, and so we thank you in advance for any donation you can make for them, whether it is $5 or $500.
Their mom is a true hero — searching desperately for someone to help her kids and never giving up on them. We are honored to play a part in their story, and we invite you to join with us to save their lives.
Nothing is more important than family. Let’s stand beside this one and show the world that unconditional love can change everything.
