Betsy, Just as She Is
For over a year, Betsy has been waiting to be chosen. In 2012 she came to LWB to have her cleft repaired and it was discovered that she had experienced some trauma to her face. At age eight, she was then one of the oldest children on the cleft exchange and truly touched our hearts with her quiet bravery and shy smiles.

Betsy’s sweet, tentative smile has been emerging more and more each month. Betsy lives in our foster care program in rural Anhui and recently enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year with her foster family.
Betsy has become very close to her foster mother and especially enjoys accompanying her to the store. She has a very good appetite and enjoys feeding her foster family’s chickens! She also spends time watching TV and observing the neighborhood kids. However, Betsy has not been able to truly join in their play or attend school with them.
Although we don’t know Betsy’s history prior to age eight and may never know what trauma Betsy experienced, what we do know is that Betsy needs a family. She needs a family who will love her as she is now, who will tenderly nurture her, tend to her medical and emotional needs, and be her family forever.
Could you or someone you know be the mother or father to cherish sweet Betsy?
