Christi: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

10-13 Christi 7

The beginning of Christi‚Äôs life is nearly unimaginable: She was born with a condition called gastroschisis, which means that there was a large hole in her abdominal wall, and several organs (including her liver and intestines) were exposed and on the outside of her body. LWB was contacted immediately upon Christi’s arrival at the orphanage, and she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery (read more on our blog, “Emergency Medical Treatment for Baby Christi“).

Christi surprised everyone with her strength, kicking and screaming as she arrived at the ICU; she was a fighter!

After surgery to prepare her abdominal cavity, doctors encased her organs in a sterile bag and began the slow process of lowering them back into her body. This took several days, after which surgeons closed her abdomen. Christi’s recovery was complicated by a serious infection, and then pneumonia, but finally she was discharged in mid September to LWB’s Heartbridge Healing Home.

It is clear this sweet baby girl is in need of some serious TLC.

You can be a part of Christi’s story of hope by helping to sponsor her specialized care at Heartbridge. Your monthly donation of $50 (or $25 for a shared sponsorship) will help support this amazing baby and her fighting spirit. Sponsors will receive monthly updates and photos. Thank you!
