Emergency Food Relief

This week, LWB launched an Emergency Food Relief drive in response to the COVID-19 crisis around the world, as so many children in the locations where we work are going hungry. The situation has become critical for many severely impoverished families, who even before the pandemic were only just surviving as day laborers. Now under lock-down orders, these vulnerable families have no ability to purchase food for their children.

Our LWB community’s response so far has been truly humbling. Within less than 48 hours, YOU helped us raise funds for 800 families to receive food supplies for one month.

We are already working with local people on the ground to immediately distribute these supplies to those most in need. Much of this food relief is going to help children who have been left as orphans, such as Judith (age 15) and her younger siblings. Their mother passed away three years ago, and their father left them all alone shortly afterwards.

Your support over the past two days has allowed us to provide 60 kilograms of corn flour, 30 kilograms of beans, 20 kilograms of rice, and some other essential supplies to Judith and her siblings for this coming month.

We also were able to get much-needed rice and fish oil to Jillian and her siblings, whose parents divorced and then abandoned them. Now, the children are living in the care of their grandmother, who had to sell her small home this past year simply to be able to feed her grandkids. A kind neighbor is currently allowing them to sleep in an empty building, but the money for food is all gone. This older grandma has no income whatsoever to keep Jillian and her siblings from going hungry.

We can’t thank you enough for donating to our relief fund so we can make sure that this family can eat.

These are unprecedented times for everyone, but if you are able, we invite you to make a direct and immediate difference in the lives of orphaned children and families in need. Please consider participating in our Emergency Food Campaign, running through April 30th. Our goal is now to provide an additional month of food supplies for these 800 families. Our local teams on the ground will be continually delivering food to affected families during this ongoing crisis.

The children and their families are truly grateful!
