Foster Care Is About Family

With Chinese New Year approaching, this is a special time in China. Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, is the most important holiday of the year, and families look forward to spending time together and welcoming the new year with many exciting traditions and feasts.

When we think of the celebrating taking place, it warms our hearts to know that children in our foster care program are celebrating as part of a family, as family traditions are so much of what this wonderful holiday is all about.

Learning how to be in a family, and learning subtle everyday skills is why we are so passionate about foster care.  It is all about the simple lessons, such as taking care of a family pet,

and sweet moments like anticipating your birthday and watching your foster mom cook a special meal – just for you.

Following an older brother everywhere, helping make dinner, or watching your foster granny choose the best tomatoes and negotiate the very best price at market are all things that are made possible through foster care. A foster mom who will indulge your sweet tooth with little treats or give you a cozy place for a nap is so special to these children.

Foster care is about family.  It’s a chance for children like Eva and Joy, who are foster sisters and best friends, to go to the park together, push each other on the swings, share a good book, and learn what family bonds are all about.

We are so thankful that the children in our foster care program are welcomed into the extended families of their foster parents during holidays like Chinese New Year — just as they are welcomed into the homes and hearts of their foster families every single day.

Thank you to each and every one of our foster care sponsors who make family life experiences possible for these orphaned children!
