#GivingTuesday: Healing Baby Luna’s Heart

Giving Tuesday Luna

Four years ago, a tradition called #GivingTuesday was born to try and balance out all the spending people do on #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday. It was hoped this day could be a global effort of giving and generosity, and we think it’s a wonderful time to highlight how a gift from your heart could heal the heart of a tiny baby who has struggled since the day she was born: Luna.

When we first learned about Luna, we heard that doctors had declared her heart “inoperable”. This means that her heart defect was deemed too complex for surgery, and basically this sad diagnosis left Luna without much hope.

We offered to have Luna seen by specialized heart doctors at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai. They performed a heart catheterization, and to our great joy we learned there was indeed hope for Luna! The doctors felt she was a candidate for a BT shunt surgery, a procedure which could help her survive and give her time to find a family through adoption

This heart surgery is not without risk, and Luna is very fragile. However, we know that her life — like every child’s life — is worth the risk.

We have an audacious goal for this #GivingTuesday. We would like to to raise $10,000 towards Luna’s medical care and upcoming heart surgery and are using a new, interactive giving platform to show the progress towards our goal. We hope you will visit Luna’s Giving Grid to see how a whole community can come together to help save her life. Click on a square to make a donation, and then upload a photo of you, your family, or someone you’d like to honor along with a message in support of this beautiful little girl.

Donations as small as $10 can truly make a difference when we all come together with Love in Action.

We think it would be incredible to see the whole LWB community cheering Luna on this #GivingTuesday!
