Grumpy Benjamin: Turning that Frown Upside-Down!
This sweet baby boy came into orphanage care when he was just a few weeks old, with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. It would seem that feeding attempts by his birth family were not very successful, as he was malnourished and dehydrated upon arrival. That furrowed little brow said it all…life had not been very easy up to that point.
After some initial lab work was done, Benjamin was moved to our Heartbridge Healing Home a couple of weeks later. The orphanage nannies had already done him a world of good, and he was in good shape for our Heartbridge nannies to take over. Things were looking up, however Benjamin’s adorable little scowl stayed in place. After all he’d been through, we can’t blame him for being a little grumpy!
By the end of December (just three weeks later), Benjamin had gained 1.7 pounds, his brow had relaxed, and he had settled in nicely. Careful feedings, love and gentle exercise will continue until April, when Benjamin’s lip will be repaired at our annual Cleft Exchange mission.
Until then, he could use additional sponsors to fund his needs in the home. Would you like to be a part of Benjamin’s story of hope? You could help us to bring on his very first smile!
