Hooray for Ryder

At the very end of 2019, we received an urgent call from an orphanage who had just received a newborn baby in critical condition. Tiny Ryder was moved right away to the provincial children’s hospital, where he spent the first four months of his life in an ICU incubator.

There were many times during the last four months where we worried we would lose him. He battled pneumonia and had to be put on a ventilator, and his fragile little body had to keep fighting off infections. So many LWB supporters stood by this little baby, cheering him on and continually lifting him up for healing.

Today, we get to share the incredible news that Ryder is strong enough to be discharged from the hospital!

Ryder’s doctors have all been so touched by how hard this precious baby kept struggling to survive, and before he left, they came in to say their goodbyes.

Once all the medical instructions for Ryder’s discharge were completed, it was time for this little guy to head out into the bigger world in the waiting arms of Paddy.

LWB is blessed to have the wonderful “Paddy” as one of our healing home managers. Being a grandfather himself, he is a pro at making little babies feel secure. We can’t count the number of orphanages he has driven to, at all hours of the night, to pick up little ones needing specialized care. Paddy gently reassured Ryder and then delivered his precious cargo safely to our China Healing Home.

After all those months of peering out at the world through a small incubator window, Ryder now has the chance to see how wonderful life can be outside the hospital walls.

He still looks a little bewildered by his big journey today. We can’t wait to share more photos as Ryder gets down to the important baby business of being held, fed, and loved on completely.

Another precious life saved, thanks to the kindness and compassion of the LWB community. Let’s celebrate Ryder today!

You’ve proven yet again that Every Child Counts.
