Jacob and Kirk, Best Buddies

I always look forward to reading the updates on Kirk and Jacob who are both at Heartbridge. These two little boys have enough personality between them for ten kids!!!

Kirk is cheerful and charms the socks off of everybody he meets. Jacob is also a cheerful little boy who just so happens to love the trash can. No matter where the nannies hide it, Jacob tenaciously hunts it down like it is buried treasure!

Kirk is at Heartbridge because he had heart surgery last year and needed to be monitored closely. Kirk needs another heart surgery soon; however, he is on the adoption list and we didn’t want to proceed with his surgery if he could wait until after he was with his forever family. But that was the big question—could he wait? We decided we needed to know for sure that it was safe for us to wait on his surgery, so we moved forward in faith with the test that would give us the answer — a heart catheterization. This test gives the doctors an actual picture of what is going on in the heart. I am very happy to tell you that the next time Kirk needs heart surgery he will have his mommy and daddy there by his side to help him through it. From the picture below, I think that he seems pretty happy about that as well!

Jacob is at Heartbridge recovering from his final anal atresia surgery. Anal atresia repairs are usually done in three stages, and the timing of these surgeries is critical to a successful outcome. As you can see from the photo below, Jacob is recovering beautifully from the final stage and looks overjoyed to be moving without the colostomy bag that he needed for so long.

Both of these boys couldn’t wait for us to raise the funding necessary for their care, and so they are still listed on our website, www.lovewithoutboundaries.com. We are hoping to raise the funds to cover their procedures so two more children will be able to take their places on our sponsorship page and receive the care they so desperately need. Please spread the word about these two boys. I know that I for one can’t wait to read what they do next month!!

Kate Finco is the Medical Director for Love Without Boundaries Foundation. She lives in Wisconsin, USA, with her husband Tom. They have 4 children: 3 bio kids and the youngest who was adopted from Guangdong Province, China in 2006.
