Katie: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week
Six-month-old Katie came to our Heartbridge Pediatric Healing Unit this spring to treat club feet caused by arthrogryposis (a disorder that is causing contracture of the joints in Katie’s hands and feet), and also to help Katie gain weight. At two months of age, she weighed only 2.19 kg or 4.8 pounds. Look how tiny she looks in the photo below!
During her first three months of care at Heartbridge, Katie has made wonderful progress, already graduating from club foot casts to foot braces and gaining over six pounds. At the end of September, Katie unexpectedly came down with pneumonia and had to be admitted to the hospital for a five-day course of IV antibiotics. She is now resting comfortably back at Heartbridge, and we are so happy to see her sweet smile again!
We are very grateful to have received several donations towards Katie’s hospital stay, but we still are short by over $3400. Any donation (which can be made on Katie’s sponsor page) will help us cover these costs and will also ensure that we have funds available to help the next child who needs urgent hospital care. Thank you so much for your support!
