Layla’s Happily Ever After

Once upon a time… a baby girl was born in China but was abandoned shortly after her birth. She was fortunate enough to be adopted by a local family as an infant, and her life as a daughter began.

Little Layla’s story sadly doesn’t end there. Her parents eventually divorced, and she was raised by her loving mom. When Layla was six, her world fell apart when her mother passed away and she was an orphan once again. The orphanage staff noticed that she didn’t have much energy and didn’t eat much. They thought it was due to her grieving the loss of her mother, but they didn’t know at the time that she also had a heart defect.

Early last year Layla arrived at the hospital to have a VSD repaired. Everyone soon fell in love with her after seeing this touching picture above of her comforting a baby needing heart surgery too. After her surgery Layla started feeling much better and was finally able to return to what she loved doing – going to school.

Stories that start with “once upon a time” typically end with “and they lived happily ever after.” Layla’s story doesn’t disappoint. We were thrilled when we recently received an update that Layla was adopted a few weeks ago!! Not only is she a daughter again, but she is also a little sister to two big brothers and a big sister!

…and they lived happily ever after!
