Life Skills Camp – Day Two
Day two of our Life Skills Camp was simply incredible! It started with a morning field trip to the magnificent Great Wall, which of course everyone in China hopes to someday visit. We have all been praying for good weather this week for the teens, and today was nice and cool (even in August), so we are so grateful for that. We are going to let the photos below just speak for themselves as you can clearly tell a great time was had by all!
We are already so touched by the stories of new friendships which are forming, and we love how everyone is looking out for each other.
After the Great Wall, everyone had a short time to look at the shops. It’s a big decision to decide how to use your spending money!
I climbed the Great Wall medal perhaps?
What do you think of these glasses?
Then it was time for another important life skill lesson–figuring out how to order properly at a restaurant. Each small group got to decide on their own what to choose off the menu, but they had to come in under their lunch budget.
“We’ve got a lot of choices to make.”
Then it was back to the hotel for three classroom sessions. Today’s topics centered on self esteem, loving yourself despite one’s faults, and overcoming the orphan label. We are so grateful to Dr. Gao for spending the afternoon with us, as she is an expert on these topics and had lots of important information to share. The teens were very engaged in the sessions and took lots of notes.
There were games and skits as well to reinforce the idea that every person born is deserving of love.
Every camper was given a copy of Max Lucado’s book, “If I Only Had a Green Nose,” which he even signed for them. And every mentor took the time to write a personal note and to reinforce to their small group just how amazing we think they all are.
None of this special week would be possible without your incredible support. Thank you for believing in our Life Skills program and for investing into the lives of some truly amazing young people. As one of our mentors wrote me today, “It’s already shaping up to be a live-changing experience for everyone involved.”
More tomorrow!
