Little Heart Needing BIG Love: Baby Nina

We first learned of baby Nina when her orphanage contacted us asking for emergency help. This tiny newborn had come into the world with multiple medical issues and needed to get to a hospital as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, a major snowstorm in her province closed all the roads and airports, making her transport impossible.

By the time she was finally able to be moved, she was in critical condition. Dehydrated, malnourished, and in severe breathing distress, her prognosis seemed grim.

Thankfully, the ICU doctors at the provincial hospital were able to get Nina stabilized. They let us know, however, that her medical needs are very complex, so we made plans to move her to the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai. At one of the top pediatric hospitals in China, we knew she could be fully evaluated so we could know the best plan forward to save her precious life.

After multiple exams, including a heart cath, Nina was diagnosed with an extremely complex heart issue:  complete atrioventricular canal defect. She was also diagnosed with an abdominal issue which must be repaired before her heart issues can be addressed.

This six pound little girl is truly a special heart warrior who needs our help. The first two months of her life have been a constant battle just to hang on.

Nina has had no moments of being cradled in a parent’s arms…

No lullabies or quiet whispers of how much she is loved.

All she has known about the world so far is an orphanage and hospitals.

We are determined to change that story. We want her to get Nina the medical care she needs and then bring her to stay with us in healing home care. Will you please help us make that possible?

Nina needs both a Pena procedure and then a first-stage heart surgery done. The first operation is scheduled for tomorrow, but so far we have only raised just 2% of the amount needed. $16,000 is a pretty large amount to raise, but we have every hope that our generous community of supporters will stand with Nina when her family could not and can help us raise the funds for her surgery and medical care.

We have already spoken with Nina’s orphanage about filing her adoption paperwork as quickly as possible. Our prayer is that baby Nina can get through her first two surgeries and then as soon as possible be united with a permanent family for the larger heart repair she will require.

Will you join Team Nina? Please consider making a donation today to give this baby girl the second chance she deserves. We are truly grateful.
