Lucas: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

One of the newest babies in our Healing Homes program is Lucas. This little guy entered orphanage care when he was just a few days old.

Lucas was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate which could have led to feeding and weight gain issues. Because babies born with cleft cannot get good suction when they nurse, they need extra time and patience to make sure they get enough formula to thrive. In an orphanage situation, the caregiver to baby ratio is often such that these little ones aren’t able to get adequate nutrition. Fortunately, Lucas’ orphanage quickly contacted LWB to get him into care in one of our healing homes.

Lucas was admitted to LWB care in mid-June and he’s already settling in well. Because the nannies are trained in feeding babies with cleft and also use specially designed cleft bottles, we’re sure Lucas will put on the weight and strength he needs in order to have his lip repaired in a few months. Until then, he’ll get plenty of nutritious formula, a comfy crib, and loads of snuggles and love. It looks like he’s already pretty comfortable, doesn’t it?

Lucas is in need of sponsors who would like to follow his journey of healing. We are so happy to be a part of his life story!
