Mason and Cody: From Healing to Home

This week we are featuring two wonderful boys who are soon to graduate from the Anhui Cleft Healing Home after their successful cleft lip repair surgeries. Mason and Cody will be entering our Fuyang Foster Care program and be united with foster families, where they will continue to recover with the love and support that foster care offers.

The boys entered LWB’s Anhui Cleft Healing Home (ACHH) in June 2010. As with many children born with cleft lip and palate, they were both malnourished. They needed to gain some weight before their tiny bodies would be ready to handle the stress of surgery.

Upon entering the healing home, Mason was able to make everyone smile – especially when he was sporting his very special hair dos, which was often! He was eating well and gaining weight, as we had hoped for. Cody, however, was not as strong and was admitted to the hospital just days later for pneumonia, malnutrition, diarrhea, dehydration, and blood poisoning. He was then hospitalized again in August with pneumonia but fortunately bounced back rather quickly. Mason, being older and a bit stronger than Cody, was first to receive surgery in September. He did very well with his surgery and had the caretakers smiling and laughing before and after surgery. Cody had recovered well from his illnesses and followed with his surgery in October.

Both boys have been recovering well and dazzling their caregivers. As sad as the staff at ACHH is to see these two little ones go, it is time for them to move on and join their foster families. Mason and Cody are in need of sponsors to support them on their next journey, where they will experience the love and support a family can offer. It is our greatest hope that the final step of their journey will lead them to a forever family who will cherish their wonderful smiles and tender personalities as they finally arrive home.

As a sponsor of Mason or Cody, you will receive monthly updates and photos, sharing their progress in recovery, adjusting to family, life, and of course their precious smiles!
