Meet Amy Cantilina – Team LWB
In an ongoing series, we are introducing you to some of the special people on Team LWB who are participating in the Marine Corps Marathon on behalf of LWB. Proceeds from the marathon will benefit LWB’s foster care program.
“To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.”
I am a wife to an amazing man and a mother of two great kids. We will soon have three, as we are in the process of adopting a child from China. I am a swim coach, an indoor cycling instructor, a community volunteer, a Bible study leader, and also wear whatever other hats our U.S. Air Force lifestyle brings along. A competitive swimmer up through my college days, I have been competing in triathlons and open water swims for the past six years. Distance running is new to me. I completed my first marathon at Disney World in January 2008 and remember distinctly at about mile 15 thinking, “I will never compete in any kind of race EVER again!”
When I learned, however, that LWB was putting together a team to raise funds for their work in China, I knew I had to sign up. So back to the training for me! How much more fulfilling to be running a marathon knowing that it will benefit precious children in China, rather than simply running for my own pride. My motivation is the knowledge that the programs that LWB sponsors make a huge difference in the lives of these Chinese orphans. As I run, I also hold our newest child in my heart, praying that he or she is receiving loving, tender, compassionate care as we wait for this adoption process to be complete. May the training help the months of waiting to pass quickly!
