Mickey’s Shy Smile: Worth the Wait!

In the interest of adoption, LWB Community will be profiling some waiting children whose orphanages have asked for help in finding families for them. However, we do want to be clear that these children are not in LWB programs, and we have no personal knowledge of them.

Some kids can’t get enough of the camera, hamming it up and grinning like movie stars. Mickey is not one of these kids! The woman taking these photos had a difficult time persuading him to face the camera. So she waited and waited to catch the moment he smiled. It looks like her patience paid off in these darling photos!

Mickey’s nanny says that he is a mild child who actually smiles a lot…when the camera isn’t around. We reported in our first blog about Mickey that he was born with congenital cataracts in both eyes. As a baby, he received cataract extraction and then had lens implantation surgery in May 2009.

Mickey is now six years old and is still living at the Deyang orphanage in Sichuan province.  We imagine that he could get quite used to sharing his shy smile with a family and hope that one comes forward for him this year!

Love Without Boundaries proudly advocates for adoption but is not an adoption agency. We invite you to contact adoptionassistance@lwbmail.com with questions about a child we have featured and encourage you to contact your local adoption agency for more information about China’s Waiting Child Program.

Everytime we see pics of Mickey it kills us. My son is from the same SWI as Mickey and just came home 8/11 so he knows Mickey. My son is profoundly deaf and is learning sign very quickly. Everytime he looks at a picture of Mickey he signs “my friend”. Sadly we are not eligible for Mickey but I am praying he finds his forever family.
