Mitchell is a delightful eight year old boy from our Believe In Me orphanage school in Shaoguan who is waiting to be matched with his forever family. He has come so far since he began to attend school in our program!
From his earliest reports, Mitchell was described as a kind and polite boy who appeared quite serious in many of his photos. However, as Mitchell began learning and playing at school, his self-confidence grew and true personality started to shine through.
In June, a team of LWB volunteers had the opportunity to meet Mitchell during our Teacher Training program, and he made a very positive impression on them. They saw what appeared to be a happy and outgoing boy with an engaging smile. Mitchell genuinely seems to love learning and is now a leader in his classroom. He appears very confident and happy to be himself.
We hear that Mitchell is continually said to be kind and ready to help a classmate when needed.
Academically, Mitchell is really improving in school. From the beginning of his time with us, his teachers have reported that he has been willing to participate in class and always tried his best. When he first began, Mitchell enjoyed hands-on activities like building with blocks, but he did not like to write or listen to stories. He was not able to count or recognize numbers.
Today Mitchell is a different student. He is often the first to answer his teacher’s questions in class. Mitchell now loves listening to stories and recent lessons that featured the books The Very Hungry Caterpillar and 10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle, and The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister were some of his favorites.
Mitchell can recognize and write many basic Chinese characters, and he can even read simple stories and write his name. Math appears to be a strength for Mitchell. He can count from 1 – 50, add and subtract one-digit numbers, identify geometric shapes and recognize and extend patterns. Mitchell has made so much progress in just the past two years!
Mitchell is also known to be a good friend to everyone who is lucky enough to know him, and we hope that he could be a wonderful son as well to the right family for him.
Mitchell’s adoption paperwork has been filed and his file is now on the shared list. Non-LWB grant money is available for the family working towards his adoption. We can’t wait to hear that he has been matched with his forever family!
Love Without Boundaries proudly advocates for adoption but is not an adoption agency. We invite you to contact [email protected] with questions about a child we have featured and encourage you to contact your adoption agency for more information about China’s Waiting Child Program.
