Sponsor a Child, Change a Life!
In honor of orphaned children in China and International Children’s Day, Love Without Boundaries is celebrating our first annual “Sponsor A Child” Day today!
In China and in many other countries, International Children’s Day (ICD) is celebrated on June 1. The ICD had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925. It’s not clear why June 1 was chosen as the ICD. One theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year. This also coincided with the conference in Geneva during which time the “Geneva Declaration Protecting Children” was passed. The proclamation made a strong appeal for the spiritual needs of children, relief for children in poverty, prevention of child labor, reassessment of the way that children are educated and other issues related to the welfare of children around the world.
Every year, when this day arrives, China is full of children’s smiling faces, songs and great joy. However, there are still many children like those featured here waiting for their forever families, someone who will love them and celebrate them on this special day and every day. On this day set aside for families to honor and celebrate their children, orphaned children may feel abandoned all over again.
Children’s Day is a day to honor the dignity of children and to instill in children the feeling that they matter… to people halfway around the globe that they may never even meet. We hope that you will take action TODAY, on June 1, 2010, International Children’s Day, to show these children that they do indeed matter to YOU and to the WORLD.
Please help us honor the many beautiful children in our programs by becoming a child’s sponsor. All the children needing sponsors are featured on our “Sponsor a Child” page on the LWB website. You will have the joy of receiving updates and reports on YOUR child. Please help us make miracles happen, ONE child at a time….and show a child that he or she matters!
