The World Is Better With Me In It: Life Skills Camp 2019

We are less than three weeks away from the start of the fourth LWB-hosted Life Skills Camp in Beijing for orphaned teens who are close to or have “aged out” of institutional care. This week-long camp will bring together children from nine orphanages around China for classes on important topics such as adolescence, money management, and personal safety. In addition to the daily classes, the teens will also go on field trips to important cultural landmarks such as the Great Wall or the Forbidden City.

Today, the teens attending our Life Skills Camp for orphaned teens traveled to the Mutianyu portion of the Great Wall. The weather forecast was calling for rain, but fortunately it held off while they were there.

Highlights from Life Skills Camp 2016

The teens at our Life Skills Camp have had a whirlwind of a week so far! They’ve taken field trips to some of China’s most iconic sights, worked on team building, practiced voicing their opinions, and been presented with honest talk about money management, sex education, and internet safety. Life Skills Camp: Tom’s Experience

Preparations for our 2016 Life Skills Camp for older orphaned teens are in full swing! Orphanages are selecting which children to send, mentors are being chosen, and class sessions and field trips are being planned. One of last year’s campers, Tom, wrote this letter to his sponsors about the impact the camp had upon him, and we wanted to share it as we found it to be so touching.

2016 Life Skills Camp

Over the last twelve years, we have been honored to help teens who grew up in orphanage care but were never matched with permanent families. These young adults will usually end up on their own sometime between the ages of 18 and 24, and our hope is to do whatever we can to help best them prepare for that day.


As part of our initiative to help these older orphaned teens, last year we held our very first Life Skills Camp – and it was a resounding success! This camp will center once more upon the theme, “The World is Better With Me In It.” Read more

Life Skills Camp – Day Two

Day two of our Life Skills Camp was simply incredible!  It started with a morning field trip to the magnificent Great Wall, which of course everyone in China hopes to someday visit. We have all been praying for good weather this week for the teens, and today was nice and cool (even in August), so we are so grateful for that. We are going to let the photos below just speak for themselves as you can clearly tell a great time was had by all!
