Estelle’s Fighting Spirit

In late September, we were contacted by an orphanage about Estelle, a newborn girl whom they had just received who had to be rushed to the local hospital.

Emergency Medical Treatment for Baby Christi

Last week we got a call in the early hours of the morning that a newborn wrapped in an old yellow blanket had been discovered outside the gate of a local orphanage. When the nanny uncovered her, she saw that the little girl had been born with several of her organs on the outside of her body. This life-threatening condition (called a large omphalocele) only occurs in about 1 in 10,000 births. Baby Christi needed emergency medical treatment to survive.

Thankfully, our team members were able to immediately take Christi to the provincial children’s hospital a few hours away where she was immediately placed in the PICU. Read more.

Duncan’s Success Story

Duncan at hospitalIn early August little Duncan’s orphanage contacted us to request medical care for him. Duncan had struggled on and off with pneumonia since arriving at the orphanage at the end of last year, but his condition had worsened and he was in an urgent situation. The local hospital recommended that he be moved to a larger hospital in Anhui Province, where his condition could be better diagnosed. Duncan was extremely sick with pneumonia when he arrived and, according to LWB’s Anhui Director, was struggling to breathe. Read more.
