Jeremiah: 5 Hearts, 7 Days

Jeremiah was Joselyn’s first baby.  While pregnant, she spent her days dreaming about her baby’s future, praying over life, and wondering whether she’d be blessed with a boy or girl. As it turned out, though, her birth story was nothing like she had dreamed. Jeremiah’s father abandoned Joselyn at the hospital. She has not seen him again, and he has never seen his son. Those first days with her child marked a difficult turning point in her life. She left the hospital as a single mom — a single mom of a baby with medical needs.

Sonny: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Sonny is a quiet little boy who was in desperate need of help. When we received his echocardiogram, we were not hopeful that heart surgery would be an option because of the seriousness of his diagnosis. Sonny had Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), a VSD (hole in the heart) very close to his aortic valve, pulmonary stenosis (PS), and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). That is a lot of things to be wrong in such a little heart, and Sonny was very blue. But we sent him to a cardiac hospital in Shanghai to get another opinion.

Sadie: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Sweet Sadie from Fuyang, Anhui Province is LWB’s Featured Child of the Week. This cutie was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect (VSD–a hole in her heart) and pulmonary stenosis (PS—a narrowing of the arteries that go from her heart into her lungs) after having an echocardiogram in November. She had two follow-up tests done which showed that the VSD was not closing on its own, and the doctors don’t believe it will. They suggested that she have surgery as soon as possible since she is prone to catching colds and pneumonia and the cold, winter weather is fast approaching.
