First, we want to tell you a bit about Bekah. Before becoming part of her forever family, Bekah was a part of the LWB family when she lived at our Heartbridge Healing Home.  Several months after her adoption, Bekah tragically passed away following surgery (read more from Bekah’s family in the blog, “Bekah:  Our Girl, Forever and Ever“). TeamLWB in the Marine Corps Marathon

This past weekend the weather was perfect for Team LWB to race in the 6th Marine Corps Marathon!  TeamLWB was small this year, with only six runners making it to the start line.

Team LWB 2013

Although we always have some attrition due to schedule conflicts or injuries, this year’s team was the smallest yet. However small, this group of fundraisers was a mighty band who raised over $12,000 for Healing Homes! Read more.

Time is Running Out to Sign Up for the Marine Corps Marathon

It is said there are two types of runners: those who ran Marine Corps Marathon, and those who plan to. If you are the first type, reenlist in 2012. If it’s on your list, commit.

The time has come to run your favorite marathon on October 28 with your favorite charity! Registration for the 37th MCM sold out in record time, and time is running out to register with charities.  Team LWB still has some bibs available and we would love for you to join us! Registration ends August 7.  Don’t miss your chance to run in 2012! The funds raised for the Marine Corps Marathon 2012 will go directly to support orphaned children in China in one of LWB’s Healing Homes.

An Irish Race for Team LWB

Don’t mess with women on a mission! Three intrepid LWB volunteers recently took part in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin, Ireland, to raise money for the children in the Henan Healing Home. Julie Flynn Coleman, the director of LWB’s Healing Homes, her daughter Robyn, and LWB volunteer Gina Hall were part of a crowd of 40,000 women all doing their part for the charity of their choice.

Julie wrote a bit about their day to give those of us who couldn’t be there some idea of the wonderful atmosphere. Read more.

New Jersey Family Fun Day

To make the New Jersey Marathon an entire weekend of fun, the New Jersey Marathon Festival (along with many sponsors and volunteering organizations) has created a special day full of fun family events for all ages and abilities.  Held on the Great Lawn at the Ocean Front Promenade in Long Branch, right next to the Ocean Place Resort Hotel where Runner’s Expo is taking place, there will be three running events just for kids and a variety of other fun activities.   Besides the fun everyone will surely have, the best part is that funds raised by the ticket sales to these events will go to support the amazing children in LWB’s Education programs, some of whom you can see in these photos.  If you live in or near New Jersey, please consider joining us!

Run Baby Run

This morning as I was slowly jogging around our neighborhood, I couldn’t get the words to the song “Run Baby Run” out of my mind. Not that I know all of the words, nor am I really a runner. But I am in a family of runners and we are all gearing up to “run baby run baby run” – for orphaned children in China.

Love Without Boundaries has a team running in the 35th annual Marine Corps Marathon held in Washington DC on October 31st. My husband, Ben, will be trying to keep up with our oldest son and daughter in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon. Our youngest five children are running in the kids’ Fun Run held the day before, and they’ve already started training – they ALL want to be first. What they don’t realize is that the “real” winners will be the babies the funds will help through LWB.
