World Down Syndrome Day 2018

Did you ever wonder why March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day?  March 21, or 3/21, signifies the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. Around the world, people are proudly wearing crazy socks and celebrating the joy that people with Down Syndrome bring to the world. Today we would like to shine the spotlight on ten children with Down Syndrome in our programs who are waiting to be chosen for adoption.  Here they are from oldest to youngest:

Waiting Children of 2017: Ages 5 and Under

Our deepest wish for the children in our programs is to have the love and support of a family. This blog features seventeen younger waiting children in our programs. Many of these little ones were not featured last year and are new to our list. We are so happy that their orphanages filed their adoption paperwork and hope that in 2018 some of these incredibly special children will find permanent families of their very own.

Improved Mobility for Hayden and Ben

Through the generosity of our supporters and the efforts of our amazing LWB team members, we were able to make a real difference in the lives of two boys with very limited mobility: Hayden and Ben.

Early this year, we became aware of an older Tibetan boy who was unable to walk and spent his life crawling. He was born with limb differences and lost his mother and father shortly after birth. He lives with his extended family members very close to Mt. Everest. Read more

Xinzhou Baby Boom

It’s a baby boom in Xinzhou!

Our Xinzhou foster care program in Jiangxi province has just received four new baby girls! How exciting to see this program growing and taking more little ones into foster care.  These baby girls are so new that we only have one photo of each of them, and they haven’t yet learned to smile for the camera.  But don’t worry — we’re sure that we’ll be seeing smiles and open eyes from them soon enough. Mildred: LWB’s Featured Child of the Week

Adorable Mildred was named by one of our wonderful heart surgery program volunteers in honor of her mother who recently passed away. She is only three months old and has a pretty serious heart defect—Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF). ToF means she has four specific defects with the structure of her heart and can be life-threatening if left untreated. As you can see from little Mildred’s photo, she is growing very well—especially her chubby cheeks!

We have arranged for Mildred to have her surgery at a hospital in Shanghai where they have had a lot of success repairing this type of defect. The pediatric cardiologist has recommended that she wait until she is six months old to have her surgery but it will be expensive because there is so much for them to repair. Mildred has a beautiful future ahead of her if we can heal her heart. If you would like to be a part of her healing please go to her sponsor page. A donation in any amount will help this little girl live a long, healthy life.
