The Boys From Henan Have Arrived
Several weeks ago, we told you about three little boys from an orphanage in Henan. Their orphanage director was hoping that all three boys could get cleft repair surgeries before they got much older, and he asked if LWB could help. We reached out to our supporters, and in just a few days all THREE surgeries were completely funded! We couldn’t wait to welcome the boys to Anhui.
Yesterday, three cheerful nannies and three darling boys arrived at the train station in Hefei and went directly to the Anhui Children’s Hospital for pre-surgery testing.
At 7 months, Keaton is the smallest. He is struggling to put on weight due to his cleft lip and palate. Doctors originally planned to repair Keaton’s cleft lip this week to make it much easier for him to get the nutrition he needs so he can put on some much-needed pounds.
Unfortunately, doctors noticed that Keaton had some blisters on his body and diagnosed a case of hand and mouth disease, so he had to head back to his orphanage to recover. We’ll make sure that he will get his cleft repair surgery when he is well again!
Sweet Ben is also 7 months old and was born with a bilateral cleft lip. This condition is best repaired before he gets much older, so we are thrilled that Ben was able to come for surgery at such a young age.
Don’t worry, Ben — you will be in great hands!
Finn is older than Keaton and Ben and is missing an eye in addition to his cleft palate. He had his cleft lip repaired previously and is an old hat at surgery, but of course recovering from cleft palate repair can be much more painful.
It looks like Finn has a very attentive nanny who will see that he is as comfortable as he can be.
Thank you to everyone who supported the cleft surgeries of these three boys. We look forward to bringing you more news about them this week and can’t wait to show you their new smiles!
