The Gift Of Confidence

Dereck, a student at our “Believe in Me School” in Shantou, Guangdong, recently called his classmates to the chalkboard after school was dismissed for the day. He proceeded to teach them a lesson.

If one of the students was not paying attention, the teacher reported, Dereck would give them “the look,” which brought immediate appropriate action on behalf of the inattentive student.

At first glance, this is just a cute picture of a little boy playing school. After thinking about it for a while though, I realized that this young man has been given a gift beyond the ability to understand the lesson for the day. He has received the gift of confidence. He knows the information and believes in his ability to relay that information to others. This is one of the many gifts our “Believe in Me” education sponsors give to the children. Learning builds the confidence they need to believe in themselves, to believe that there is a purpose for their lives, and to believe that each of them can grow up to make a difference in the world.

Our education sponsors give this gift and many others to our students every day. Thank you!
