The Three Musketeers of Sanmenxia Foster Care

Three little boys in our Sanmenxia foster care program, Bobby, Daniel and Shane are affectionately known as the “Three Musketeers”. Similar to the fictional Three Musketeers, all three boys have very different personalities yet have formed an inseparable friendship while in foster care.

Bobby, age five, has been in our foster care program since 2013. He is a very busy little guy but has thrived with his foster family under the careful eye of his foster parents.

Bobby’s foster mother once told a story to our foster care manager that was just so sweet and has resonated with us. She said one day she overheard Bobby talking to himself. He was saying, “Mother love me, my father, brother, elder sister also love me.” Bobby’s foster mother said this made her tear up realizing the positive impact her family was having on him.

Daniel, age seven, entered foster care at the same time as Bobby. He is our joker who likes to have fun! Daniel always has a smile on his face and enjoys performing for our foster care manager when she visits!

The first time Daniel celebrated his birthday, his foster mother bought him a birthday cake and they held a family birthday party for him. Daniel then proceeded to talk about his birthday every single time he saw our foster care manager during his monthly visits for the next year. What a special feeling that must have been for Daniel to experience a birthday celebration for the first time!

How five-year-old Shane came to foster care is a bit of an unusual story. Bobby and Daniel both attend school with Shane at the social welfare institute. According to our foster care manager, Shane requested to have a foster family because Bobby and Daniel talked to him so much about their foster families, and Shane wanted one, too!

Initially, when Shane entered foster care last year, he had a bit of difficulty adjusting and was unable to sleep through the night. Luckily, Shane’s foster mother is very experienced and patient and helped him fall back asleep until he was finally able to sleep through the night on his own. Now, Shane is very attached to his foster mother and loves to spend time with her and sit on her lap to have his snack.

All three boys have shown us in different ways the positive impact a loving foster family can have on a child. Their foster families have made them feel so special and loved. We believe their positive experiences in foster care will be a benefit for when they are matched with a forever family as they now know that special feeling that comes with being part of a family.

In addition to our foster families, we are also so grateful to our sponsors who made it possible for the “Three Musketeers” to form this close bond with both each other and their foster families.

Our foster care sponsors have truly changed the lives of these three boys forever with their generous gifts!
