Waiting for Betsy’s Smile
May God give you…For every storm a rainbow, for every tear a smile, for every care a promise and a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share, for every sigh a sweet song and an answer for each prayer. ~ An Irish Blessing
Everything’s is changing now for Betsy! It was a year ago that Betsy joined our foster care program in Fuyang. Abandoned two years ago as a child and not a baby, Betsy has experienced her share of trauma already in life. When she was found, she had already had a scar on her lip, but we really do not know much else about her background. What we do know is that a spark has finally begun gleaming in her eye like diamond stars that fill the sky.
I think her smile says smile says it all.
I had been waiting to see this little girl’s smile for months. Each month I would open her report and be crossing my fingers until I saw the photos. Finally I am seeing what I think are her true colors: a little girl who likes music and friendships. A girl whose smile can light up a room.
While Betsy is not attending school, she does seem to enjoy being with others and talking with them. She seems to have an easygoing temperament so far. While she is not yet too active outdoors, she does have a doll that she enjoys playing with, and she spends time every day dressing and caring for her doll.
Betsy is quite close with her foster sister, and the two enjoy playing together.
I am looking forward to the day I see Betsy’s smile in a photo with her permanent family!
